this corner of spring and 3rd has been the creative soul of atlanta since 1994. yin yang music cafe opened here in august of that year and stayed for six years. apache cafe took the same space in 2001 and stayed for eighteen. the room saw over 1,300 documented concerts, eight straight years of weekly art shows, a spoken word night that was nationally known, and a thursday house night that launched careers.
janelle monae played this stage before the world knew her name. erykah badu held her listening party here in 1997 — 500 people in a room built for three hundred. dj kemit played every thursday at this address starting in 1994.
